Factory paint codes

2023 Toyota Tacoma

10 factory colors were offered on the Third generation (AN300) Tacoma. Your code is on the driver's door jamb sticker on the line marked C/TR — the characters before the slash.

10 colors 5 finishes: Tri-coat, Solid, Metallic, Mica, Pearl Third generation (AN300) (2016–2023)

Changes from 2022:

Verified against 3 independent sources: 2023 Toyota Tacoma official brochure (dealer CDN mirror): https://cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/brochures/toyota/2023-tacoma.pdf — Tacoma Colors & Trims page lists Black, Blue Crush Metallic, Lunar Rock, Electric Lime Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic, Solar Octane, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, Ice Cap; a cover caption reads 'TRD Pro Double Cab shown in Solar Octane (extra-cost color)'; Toyota USA Newsroom, 2023 Tacoma: https://pressroom.toyota.com/2023-toyota-tacoma-adds-new-sr5-sx-and-chrome-packages/ — 'new for 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro's exclusive color will be Solar Octane'; Trail Edition in Lunar Rock, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Black and White; Electric Lime on TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road; PaintRef Toyota cross-reference, 2023 Tacoma: https://www.paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?year=2023&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma&rows=100 — confirms 9 of the 10, with 040 listed simply as 'White'.

Final third-generation year. Two changes are easy to miss: 040 is now marketed as Ice Cap rather than Super White (same code), and Midnight Black Metallic 218 reverts to plain Black 202. Solar Octane 4W5 is the TRD Pro exclusive and an extra-cost color. Army Green is dropped. PaintRef's 2023 Tacoma page omits Solar Octane, but the brochure and Toyota's press release both carry it.

Where to find your paint code

Driver's door jamb (B-pillar), on the white or silver build sticker, on the row labelled C/TR.

Driver's door jamb

  1. Open the driver's door and look at the B-pillar at roughly latch height.
  2. Find the row labelled C/TR on the printed sticker.
  3. The three characters before the slash are the paint code.
  4. The characters after the slash are the interior trim code, not paint.

If the sticker is missing or faded

  • Call any Toyota dealer parts desk with your VIN. They can read the code off the build record, usually in under a minute and at no cost.
  • Genuine Toyota touch-up part numbers embed the paint code — part 00258-004X0-21 is code 4X0.

Other Tacoma years

Color availability changed year to year. Codes often carried over; names sometimes did not.
