Editorial standards

What the badges mean

• Verified — the roster is confirmed by two independent sources, named on the page.
• 1 source — we have one source. It is published, and labelled as such. It has not been cross-checked.
• Unverified — recorded but not yet sourced. Treat with caution.

What we will not do

• List a code on a vehicle page unless we have a source saying it was offered on that model in that model year.
• Invent color names, or substitute a retailer's marketing name for the factory name. Where a color is widely mislabelled, we say so on the code page.
• Present a swatch as a measured color match. Every swatch is an on-screen approximation.

On paint codes and VINs

A VIN does not contain paint color. We verified this directly against NHTSA's vPIC database: a VIN decode returns 140 fields and none is exterior color or paint code.
