Reading a Chevrolet paint code
Three-character RPO code beginning with G (letter + two alphanumerics), e.g. GAZ, G7C, GB8, G6M. Each paint also carries a four-character WA number, written WA-8624 or WA8624 and sometimes as a U-prefixed equivalent (U8624).
GM assigns every factory paint two identifiers. The RPO (Regular Production Option) is what the vehicle's own labelling shows and what dealers order by, so it is the primary code here; the WA number is the paint-manufacturing code that touch-up bottles, spray cans and refinish systems are sold under, and is recorded in nameNote for each colour. The two are 1:1 for a given colour (GAZ = WA-8624 Summit White). Body-shop paperwork may show the WA number as BC/CC U8624 (basecoat/clearcoat) or, on two-tone vehicles, as U#### for the upper body and L#### for the lower. Beware digit/letter confusion in the RPO: characters 2 and 3 can be either, so GA0 (Northsky Blue) ends in a zero while G6O (Pacific Blue) ends in a letter O, and retailer listings frequently transpose them.
